Interactive Introverts | My Experience
Hello there! Last night I went to see Interactive Introverts and I wanted to talk a little about my experience.
I've been a fan of Dan (Daniel Howell aka DanIsNotOnFire) for 7 years and Phil (Philip Lester aka Amazing Phil) just under that. I found Dan when I was 15 years old and fell in love with his sense of humour through his story telling and sketches. Dan and Phil's videos have always put a smile of my face, even in times where it was hard for me to smile.
So, you can understand my excitement when I got tickets for their show last Christmas. I had been nagging my family for ever since they announced they were going on a world tour.
Now in all fairness, I didn't know what the show was going to be but I don't think anyone did/does and I had fallen ill, which I believe may had made the show for me less enjoyable. I also don't want to say that I was disappointed as I'm so grateful to my family for getting me tickets, and the boys (Dan&Phil) put so much work and effort into the shows every night and then travelling all day to get to the next venue. I guess I was just left a little flat, like when you leave the hairdressers with non-wavy voluminous hair that you thought you'd be leaving with - not enough bang for your buck, if you will.
Being a fan of Dan and Phil for so long, I was expecting the audience (most of the audience at least) to be a similar age to me (22), to have grown up with them, to have collected all the inside jokes together throughout the years. But most of the audience (from what I saw) were young girls ages around 12-17 years old. I hear what you're saying - but Victoria, you were 15 years old when you found them. Yes, I was, but they were just starting up and were young(er) themselves. I have nothing against teenage girls (maybe just the fact that you've deafened me from the cheering from the show last night but I'll let you off) I was just expecting to see long time viewers like myself.
I don't understand why I was so surprised by the audience. When I was trying to find someone to go with they either didn't know who Dan&Phil were or they simply don't watch them anymore - they had outgrown them. So, of course the content Dan and Phil are putting out there is more consumable for a younger audience, which explains why the show had been the same.
The nice and surprising thing I found with this young audience was their passion for community and celebration. Before the show and during the intermission these young people got up and danced, cheered for others dancing, singed with pride and a few girls even held up a gay pride flag which everyone cheered for. This show wasn't just The Dan and Phil Show but a celebration of all of us who had came together to enjoy the show, a community built by two men, who challenge gender stereotypes, celebrate differences and promote self well being.

I'm going to make this into a two parter as there is a lot of writing there. I really hope I havent upst anyone with this post and if I have then I am sincerely sorry. I am just trying to talk about my own experience of the show. Part 2 will be up shortly. Thanks for reading!
