Makeup Buys & Trys | Cruelty Free
Oh hello there! It's been a long ol' time since I've posted here, but I'm not going to beat myself up about it like I usually do. I just wasn't liking my blog and I had no inspiration to post.
I've had a little freshen up here on Victoria Anne and I can honestly say that I love it! I'm so happy with how I have changed this blog and I've found a spark of inspiration. So further ado, grab a cuppa, sit back and get comfy because I've written a blog post for you..
I have never used or bought any products from e.l.f, one of the cheapest makeup brands on the market. I remember when I was 14 drooling over my keyboard at all the lipsticks and eye shadows on their website. I couldn't wait to have money so that I could order myself a big ol' goody bag of makeup treats. As I got older I wasn't much fused on them, I felt like the packaging was nothing special and they weren't doing anything different but I needed a new eyeliner so I thought I'd give them a whirl.
e.l.f Cream Eyeliner
At first I did not get on with this product, I found it much too thick and impossible to create a wing that wasn't completely smuggled and blunt.
After reading all of the positive reviews on their website I was so confused, I was thinking - are we using the same product? Yes the pigment is perfect, yes is goes on like a dream, and yes, it does take a bit of elbow grease to get off (which is every British makeup wearer's dream eyeliner....especially when we forget an umbrella). But I am not creating these perfect wings which everyone is claiming their getting.
I ditched the shitty brush included in the packaging with the product and tried it with my thinner eyeliner brushes and with a bit of practice and patience I got a medium thickness wing that I would probably go out wearing. I'm still not completely sold, I'm struggling to get a really sharp point and a delicate wing that I usually achieve with liquid liner, but for a night out I think it will do.
Also like I said, it takes some elbow grease to get off which I have two problems with. 1. I am lazy and when I'm tired I want to be able to take off my makeup as quickly as I can and 2. I don't want to be scrumping at my eyes to get this stuff off, I don't think the red and puffy eyes are worth it. I think I'll just stick to my liquid eyeliner thank you.

e.l.f No Budge Retractable Liner
Much like the e.l.f cream eyeliner I really wanted to like this product. I bought it for my lower lash line to give the appearance of larger eyes. Sampling this product on my hand I was very impressed as the pigment was good and it would not smug at all! I found once I applied it to my lower lash line it became almost like watercolours and was easy to smug....it kind of looked like I had some horrible white eye gunk coming from my eye........lovely...
Sleek A New Day
(This is a bit of a cheat because I have used this product before).
There is something about a Sleek pallet that makes me feel so satisfied. I think it's due to that fact that the packaging itself is very sleek and smart looking. It has a very large mirror which is perfect for travel. I don't much care for the brush but for someone on a budget or on the go it's handy to have as part of a kit.

There is a good mix (6 of each) of matte and shimmering natural colours, which are all pretty subtle but very easy to build up. Even though the colours are natural I think you'd still be able to create a gloriously glam smoky eye.
Personally I go for the darker pink and dark down for an every day look but do tend to add a bit of shimmer for a night out. Overall I love this pallet, I go for it every time I'm in need of fresh shadows. It is a fanatic stable as you do have all those natural colours and for someone who is just beginning to get into makeup its a must.
